Dr. Jonathan Ngai

Jonathan Ngai holds a PhD in applied linguistics from the University of Hong Kong. Formerly a panel chair, he has more than 15 years of secondary school teaching experience. He is presently Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Hong Kong Metropolitan University. His current research interests centre primarily on academic, journalistic and promotional texts, with a strong focus on evaluation/stance, style and rhetoric. He is the author of Evaluation Across Newspaper Genres: Hard News Stories, Editorials and Feature Articles (Routledge, 2022).
