The Reading & Writing Lab helps individuals and small groups to understand the assigned readings and improve their written assignments.

  • Books and assigned reading texts are kept in the ILC user area for easy reference
  • Students can call 3943 8733 to make appointments to see a language expert
Independent learning in support of General Education
  1. Critical Reading and the Discussion of various texts are provided by the English and Chinese teams. The texts will be discussed in relation to particular questions based on assignments. Participants are expected to have a good general idea about the specific texts. Participants with language-related questions may raise them during the discussions.
  2. Writing consultations for individuals or on a small group basis are offered specifically for General Education students. Participants are encouraged to bring their outline plan, first draft; and in some cases, their second draft to the consultations for feedback and suggestions. Resources for self-study to improve academic writing will also be given. The special General Education writing consultations will be limited to no more than 5 consultations per student.
  3. General Education students are also encouraged to attend academic reading and writing workshops offered by the ILC throughout the year.

The ILC website also helps students by providing a wide range of resources for them to use during their own time to further develop their academic study skills.
