Workshop Description |
Students will learn how to present scientific information in their final year project report or in their MPhil/PhD thesis. Topics covered will include the use of the IMRAD (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion) format as well as what to include in the other sections (such as the Title page, Abstract, Acknowledgements and References) of a successful report. The design and use of appropriate figures and tables will also be covered. This workshop is most useful for students (UG and PG) studying the Biological Sciences.

Dr. Sarah E. Webb
Dr. Sarah E. Webb was born and brought up in the UK. She obtained a BSc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry at the University of Bath, and a PhD in Cell Biology from King’s College London. She has worked in Hong Kong for over 20 years, first at CUHK and then at HKUST. She is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Life Science at HKUST, where she pursues her interest in investigating the role of Ca2+ in embryogenesis. She has many years’ experience in writing, proof-reading and editing scientific research articles and reviews, and has taught a number of scientific writing courses and workshops. In early 2014, Dr. Webb started a company (EDITXL) to help academics and students in Hong Kong and China proof-read and edit their work.
