Greetings
When we come across Cantonese friends on campus, they tend to ask “silly questions” like “Did you have your meal?” or “Where are you going?” In the washroom, they may say “Are you going to the washroom?”
These questions sound redundant but in fact they are greetings and require no real answers. They just want to start a conversation and do not expect a serious answer. So, next time when your Cantonese friends ask you “Did you have meal?”, giving a simple answer like “yes” or “no” would be enough.
